Open Source Technologies- CDAC, Noida Initiatives
Open Source Technologies like linux are being widely
implemented globally on the servers, desktop PC’s
and Laptops or even embedded devices like Mobile Phones,
PDA’s, Home or industrial appliances etc. The
Linux Clusters rank highly among the top 500 supercomputers
worldwide. Many mission critical applications of NASA
and US military are simulated and implemented on Linux.
Indian market is also opening up to
new opportunities being offered at very low costs by
Open Source Technologies. CDAC, Noida has taken various
initiatives by providing products, solutions and consultancy
support services for adopting open source technologies.
Some initiatives of CDAC, Noida are:

Machine Aided Translation-
English to Hindi translation system

Lekhika- A platform
independent word processor with addon utilities
like Hindi spell-checker, transliteration, dictionaries
etc.

Neuron Thin Client-
Thin client provides desktop environment at very
low cost compared to PC’s over a network.
It can work in both windows as well as Linux environment.

Open Source Set-Top-Box-
with embedded Conax CAS. The implementation is with
an open source web browser to provide internet on
TV.

Hospital Information
System- Total HIS package implementation

ISP Setup with Mailserver,
webserver, DNS, RADIUS, Proxy server all configured
in Linux

Data centre
with 2 clusters – one application cluster
and the other one as data cluster. The data cluster
is configured with Oracle 9i RAC and the data applications
are hosted on the application servers cluster.

Q-mail implementation
at NTPC, Noida- providing consultancy and handheld
support to big corporates like NTPC in enabling
them to adopt Open source technologies.

applications and databases to Linux
